Uniformity -
Even distribution across a given space. In video,
uniformity can refer to the distribution of light (hot
spotting) or color.
·
Unity
Gain - Output
that equals the input. Unity gain screen material
reflects as much light as the reference material. Has
an even dispersion of light.
·
Universal Remote Control
- A large programmable remote control capable of
controlling several components in your Home Theater
system. A universal remote control has the commands of
numerous brands of various components stored into memory
and can control several different devices
simultaneously.
·
Upconversion -
To scale video to meet resolution demands greater than
the video signal offers. Upconverted video doesn't have
any information added; it's simply converted so it can
be displayed on a TV with a higher resolution display.
This is common on CRT TVs with a native resolution of
1080i that receives a video signal at 720P. Since the
TV isn't capable of displaying 720P that signal is said
to be "upconverted" by a video scaler to meet that TVs
native resolution.

Upscaling - Upscaling is a process that
mathematically matches the pixel count of the output of
a standard or non-hi-def signal (such as standard DVD)
to the physical pixel count on an HDTV, which is
typically 1280x720 (720p) or 1920x1080 (1080i).
720p represents 1,280 pixels displayed across the screen
horizontally and 720 pixels down the screen vertically.
This arrangement yields 720 horizontal lines on the
screen, which are, in turn, displayed progressively, or
each line displayed following another. 1080i represents
1,920 pixels displayed across a screen horizontally and
1,080 pixels down a screen vertically. This arrangement
yields 1,080 horizontal lines, which are, in turn,
displayed alternately. In other words, all the odd lines
are displayed, followed by all the even lines. |
