Y

·         Y-adapter - Any type of connection that splits a signal into two parts.  An example would be a connector with one female RCA jack on one end, and two male RCA jacks on the other end.

·         Y/C - Abbreviation for luminance/ chrominance, aka S-video signal.  Color and detail signals are kept separate, thus preventing composite video artifacts.  Cable uses four-pin connector.  Used with S-VHS VCRs, DVD players, Hi-8, and DBS receivers.

·         YCbCr  - YCbCr refers to an interlaced scan-only component video connection.  A YCbCr connection typically is not capable of passing through a high definition video signal.

·         YPbPr - YPbPR refers to a progressive Scan-capable component video input/output connection.  YPbPR is also another term for component video.  Some YPbPR connections are also HD-compatible.
